Fly of the month > July 2010

| Glo Bug |
| The Glo bug is about as simple as a fly gets. As Glo bugs imitate fish eggs, therefore a good time to fish these are when stray eggs are getting washed down stream. Trout will often follow and sit behind spawning Salmon to take advantage of this. Glo bugs come in lots of different colours and sizes. Everybody seems to have a different favourite colour that works well for them. I often fish these tied on a dropper off the bend of a large tungsten bead nymph if I need to get deep. Glo bugs with lead dumbbell eyes (known as Muppets) are another option. Another variation available is called a Heave 'n' Leave. This is a Glo bug with a foam cylinder or similar tied at the eye of the hook which makes it float. These are fished with a sinking line and the name explains the rest. |
